PNG compression: quality and transparency
PNG is a lossless file format, but reducing its colour palette before encoding changes pixels. This tool uses colour quantisation below 100% quality. At 100% it uses lossless PNG encoding; resizing still changes pixels. Metadata may be removed. This browser workflow outputs 8-bit still PNG images; APNG animation and 16-bit channel depth are not preserved. If the optional encoder fails to load, browser PNG export may produce a larger file. Compare the preview, dimensions and measured file size before downloading. For a label combining English with an Indian script, inspect small characters and joining marks after resizing or colour reduction. The output is a still 8-bit PNG; animation and 16-bit source depth are not retained.
